Demolish every hurdle. Make it so easy for people to buy from you that they could do it with their eyes closed! Small access upgrades pay back in revenue and reputation.
Did you know that 1 in 5 Australians (5.5 million) have a disability?
That not only means 20% of customers lost due to inaccessibility but people with disabilities not being able to enjoy the amazing products and services you offer. Now isn’t that a pity for everyone.
Being inclusive doesn’t always mean big changes or major renovations (I mean I’m not going to stop you if you decide to be super proactive). In many cases it’s as simple as tweaks to customer service or an extra line on the website back-end.
We’ll simplify some of the easiest things to implement now:
- Post step-free info in your bio/story highlights (door width, ramp, accessible bathroom, quiet times, etc). Many visitors decide before they visit.
- Add alt text + captions to every product and Reel—free, fast, and inclusive
- Create a portable menu for those who can’t easily access menus pasted on countertops
- List your venue on Accessible Australia to surface your access details to locals (https://levelup.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au/business-upgrades/business-planning/accessibility-in-business?utm_source=chatgpt.com)
- Train one “access champion” on the team to audit quarterly using a simple checklist
Inclusivity isn’t just human decency, it’s good for business. Don’t forget to cater to all those who support your business. Pay forward and you’ll receive in multiples.
