Saving Lives and Serving Laughs by a Registered Nurse-(in)fluencer
Archie | Nurse & Content Creator | 20 Years & 5 Years
Archie was born in the Philippines where he became a nurse in 2005 then moved to Australia in 2011. He became registered in Australia in 2014.
This is his 20th year as a nurse.
He’s also a Gemini and likes to blame his mood swings on the stars.
You can find Archie’s content both on Instagram and TikTok: Nurse.archie
“I started my social media journey in 2020 when [the] pandemic happened. I think a lot of content creators started during this time,” Archie tells us.
He likes to call it his “pleasant surprise”.
During COVID-19 when work-from-home was implemented, Archie along with his healthcare colleagues weren’t subject to this luxury.
This is when Archie recorded his first ‘silly-little’ video.
“I recorded a video of me as a work from home nurse speaking to my patient through my phone and instructing them to look after themselves at home”.
“It’s like a do-it-yourself hospital!” Archie laughs.
It totally blew up.
Archie has been growing his social media ever since. It’s been five years and he still enjoys every moment of it.
Although he understands nurse related content can be limiting he says he would like to stick with it.
He likes to think of it as something bigger than just ‘a nursing niche’.
“People can also relate to how I enjoy my days off, how I destress from work. I also do travelling and actually at the moment I am a travel nurse” he adds.
For Archie this social media thing started as a fun outlet.
He says that “it was my outlet for my artistry and creativity. I was a theatre actor back in the Philippines when I was still in university”.
What started as a hobby and something to laugh at (Archie likes to laugh at his own videos sometimes), started to earn Archie some extra cash.
It was mostly “brand collaborations and also earning money through Meta”, Archie explains.
But for Archie, money isn’t the focus.
“My most favourite [part of being a content creator] is being able to reach out to so(ooo) many people”.
“I was able to connect with other people, inspire them and they are messaging me that they are inspired by my stories. They feel happier when they see my videos”.
“That self-fulfillment in my heart is my most favourite part. I always think that there is more to life than social media apart from the perks that I get on social media but I genuinely, genuinely treasure the connections that I built through social media” he says with his hand on his heart.
A lesson for Aspiring Bees
Although Archie considers social media as a business that never deterred him from treating it with authenticity.
“Be true to yourself, seriously. Be genuine with your brand, be authentic, and stick to your values and principles because it will reflect on your videos and people can actually feel the connection if you’re true to yourself” he says passionately.
Archie emphasises that there is more to life than social media and pushes to utilise it as a source of joy, not a burden.
“Do it for fun, do it because you are happily doing it as well” he says.
Archie understands that the social media business can be hard work. He says that “you have to build your audience, you have to build your credibility, you have to have to build your brand”.
Earning money through social media for Archie is something that is very possible but he compares the experience to building a company from the ground up—”you have to start from zero and then build your own company. Build your brand and money will follow”.
Perhaps this is why Archie focuses on making the experience enjoyable—to those who enjoy what they do, maybe hard work won’t feel so hard anymore.
